为了加强音乐理论与音乐实践的血肉联系，倡导音乐学家以更大的热情关注现实音乐生活中出现的各种新现象、新问题和新热点，并从具有理论意义的新动态和新倾向中提炼出新的理论命题，展开研究论证，以推动音乐理论创新的进程，丰富和发展中国音乐学的理论体系，自2002年第2期起，本刊在继续办好“音乐美学”“民族音乐学”“中国古代音乐研究”“中国现代当代音乐研究”“外国音乐研究”“乐律学研究”“中国乐器研究”“宗教音乐研究”“大学生研究生论稿”“音乐译文”等既有栏目的基础上，陆续增设以下栏目：
