Preface The sulfur vulcanization of natural rubber with 2-mercaptobenzothiazole (MBT) and its derivatives or tetraalkyldithiocarbocyanine as accelerator has been studied extensively and conflicting mechanisms have been reviewed. It is generally accepted that the crosslinked matrix is bound to the polyisoprene chain by two or more sulfur atoms from the accelerator fragment. About the mother
