The initial stress of rock mass is one of the important factors affecting the stability of underground engineering rock mass. In order to determine the initial stress of the rock mass, various test methods have been developed, such as stress relief method, hydraulic pressure rupture method and the like. Although these methods can be used to obtain better results, they require specialized equipment and testers, which are expensive and are currently difficult to use in most of China’s small and medium-sized projects. This article is to explore the use of underground unloading displacement to determine the initial stress of rock mass.
