Epidemic hemorrhagic fever Shanxi: A total of 285 cases of hemorrhagic fever were reported in December 2007 with an incidence rate of 0.76/lakh and 5 death cases. The reported incidence had a decline of 11.22% compared with that of last month and an increase by 51.60% as well as a cumulative decline of 1.69% with respect to the same period last year. Higher incidence was observed in diverse cities such as Xi’an(136 cases), Xianyang(69 cases), and Baoji(35 cases), and such counties (districts) as Changan district(41 cases), Wugong county (24 cases), Huxian (22 cases), Xingping county (20 cases), and Zhouzhi county(19 cases). Farmers as the predominant occupation(195 cases) accounted for 68.42% of the total reported incidence. The sex ratio was 2.65∶1 with 207 reported cases in men and 78 cases in women. Patients at the age range between 15 and 64 accounted for 89.12% of the total cases. Clinical diagnosis was obtained in 150 cases with 135 laboratory diagnosed cases.
