Cytokines play an important role in hematopoietic cell growth and differentiation, immune regulation and host defense mechanisms. Most cytokines exert their broad biological roles by interacting with a class of receptor subfamilies. As the understanding of the structure of cytokine receptors continues to deepen and the discovery of the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, molecular biologists are increasingly aware of the dominant role of JAK-STAT in cytokine signaling. The interaction between Shc-JAK and Raf-JAK and the regulation of STAT function by MAPK suggest that JAK-STAT and Ras signaling pathways have extensive connections and communication.
