Almost two centuries have been the belief that cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the most serious side effect of taking oral contraceptives (estrogen-progestogen-containing contraceptives). Evidence from epidemiology and other studies has yielded evidence that dyslipidemia is associated with the development of CVD through which COC can influence the incidence of CVD. This review summarizes the link between CVD and COC use and lipid metabolism. Lipids and CVD: Low-density lipoproteins (LDLs) carry 60-70% serum cholesterol, whereas hypercholesterolemia generally reflects an increase in LDL, so low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (LDL-C)
