南昌起义后十年,也是8月1日,一支新型的军队——山西青年抗敌决死队在抗日烽火的洗礼中诞生了。这是特定历史时期产生的一支特殊的部队——由阎锡山官办,实际由共产党领导、具有地方特色的新型军队。山西新军从它诞生的那天起,到阎锡山发动“十二月事变”后归八路军序列,短短两年半的时间,就从一个团的建制发展成由决死纵队、工卫旅,暂编第一师等组成的共50个团7万余人的军队。山西新军在党的领导下,发动群众,开展游击战争,在抗日战争的烽火中经受锻炼和考验,立下不朽的功勋。
