Based on the catalytic effect of nitrite on the oxidation of pyrinine Y by potassium bromate in phosphoric acid solution, a new method for the determination of trace nitrite by catalytic fluorimetry was established. The linear range of the method was 0.2-2.4 ng · ml-1. The method was applied to the determination of nitrite content in water samples and drugs, and the results were satisfactory
