南美白对虾又称白肢虾、白对虾、白虾,原产于南美太平洋沿岸的水域,以厄瓜多尔沿岸分布最为集中,是当今世界上公认的养殖产量最高的三大优良虾种(其他两种是斑节对虾和中国对虾)之一。该虾繁殖周期长,生长快,抗病力强,加工出肉率高,肉味鲜美,经济价值高,是目前国际水产市场上的畅销产品,养殖前景广阔。它为热带型种类,适宜于热带、亚热带地区养殖。目前该虾种已在我国沿海部分地区得到大面积推广养殖。
