作者选取曾在伦敦东部石棉工厂(该厂曾广泛使用过青石棉、温石棉和铁石棉)工作过的因石棉所致疾病死亡的36名工人的肺组织作为实验组,选取因肺癌而在伦敦胸科医院住院行手术切除的56名病人(从未接触过石棉,且也住在伦敦东部)的肺组织作为对照组进行研究。分别从实验组及对照组每例肺组织中选取三块标准的5×5×3厘米的肺组织(两块取自底部,一块取自下叶的侧缘),取一块2×2×0.5厘米的肺组织作光镜检查,其余肺组织经氢氧化钾消化后,用分析电镜对其内的矿物纤维成分作定量及定性分析。石棉肺分为最轻度、轻度、中度及重度四型。对照组44名男性,12名女性,手术时的平均年龄为61岁;实验组25名男性,11名女
The authors selected the lung tissue of 36 workers who died of asbestos-borne diseases at the asbestos factory in eastern London, where extensive use of crocidolite, chrysotile and asbestos has been conducted as an experimental group, Lung tissue from 56 patients surgically removed from Chest Hospital (never exposed to asbestos and also living in eastern London) was studied as a control group. Three standard 5 × 5 × 3 cm lung tissues (two from the bottom and one from the lower lobe) were selected from each of the lung tissues of the experimental group and the control group, and a piece of 2 × 2 × 0.5 Cm lung tissue for light microscopy, and the rest of the lung tissue after digestion by potassium hydroxide, the use of analytical electron microscopy of its mineral fiber content for quantitative and qualitative analysis.
