7月28日,沃尔沃卡车公司在广州洲头咀码头发布了装配13升发动机的沃尔沃FM和FH新型卡车。相对于换代前装配12升发动机的产品,此次发布的新型卡车具有动能强劲、操作灵活、油耗低等特点。沃尔沃卡车全新发动机为直列六缸电控12．8升柴油机,带涡轮增压器和中冷器,配备顶置凸轮轴和4阀门单体式喷油器。新型13升发动机保留了12升发动机的所有优点,同时在几个方面进行改善,例如,通过增加气缸容积以及增加扭矩来加强发动机的驱动力。据沃尔沃卡车技术人员分析,扭矩的增加使得发动机应用范围更加广泛,在这种情况下用户将能更自如的运用新型卡车去操作大量繁重的工作,如建筑施工作业、驾驶重型牵引车等。新型13升发动机的扭矩大约增加了200个单位,这项改进使得卡车的加速范围增大,在很快的转速方位都能保持很高的平均车速,并且操作更加灵活,即使在爬陡坡的时候也能够发挥出色的驱动能力。
