陈琳注重以军旅生活为主题进行创作,其绘画作品以丰富的表现力和感染力,以及厚重和大气艺术手法展示中国当代海军形象,为中国海军筑魂。作为一个军旅画家,陈琳不仅需要在艺术上做出自己的探索,他还同时肩负着自己的使命。在军队美术的性质发生根本转变的今天,军事题材的作品如何创作,如何反映部队的真实状态,展现今天军队和士兵的精神风貌,是军队画家面临的新的课题。从陈琳的作品可以看出,他是一个“以小见大”的画家。他的作品在主题上展现的是中国军队(海军)作为世界一支和平力量的崛起,但他从没有那种宏大叙事的舞台性,而总是从最普通的士兵人手,通过其生活、训练、抢险等具体场景展开。这不仅是陈琳在题材和主题处理上的个人选择,也是与他常年深入部队体验生活,掌握了一手的素材并与普通士兵建立起了密切关系联系在一起的。所以,他作品中的人物形象和场景,甚至那些装备的细节,都有着现实的依据。这不仅是现实主义艺术所要求的生
