从阐释语境来说,早期脂批的意义主要体现在两个方面:一是在一定程度上还原了作者曹雪芹的生存境遇,从而为读者理解《红楼梦》提供了语境依据。二是敏锐地觉察到意义与语境的复杂关系:一方面强调读者与作者语境要素之间关合程度的不同会导致理解程度的不同,当两者高度一致时文本的意义可以得到最大程度的呈现;另一方面又意识到语境要素具有超越性特征,与作者处于不同时空的读者,可以通过人之常情与共同人性而在一定程度上获得与作者在语境上的一致性,从而理解作品的意义。早期脂批对阐释语境的关注和认识,具有不可忽视的阐释学意义。
