To resume the status of a signatory to the GATT and to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) is not only the need of reform and opening up, but also the need of domestic political and economic development and participation in international affairs. The work of retaliation and accession to the WTO has already and will continue to exert profound influence on our economy and society in the areas of commodity trade, non-commodity trade and intellectual property. In the evolution of the world economic structure and trade structure, the national insurance industry in China is facing not only a great historic opportunity to speed up development but also a serious international challenge.
