留白是国画的一种绘画技法,它含而不露,以最简明的程式承载着最浓烈的情感,颇有“此时无声胜有声”的静态效果。明代“唐宋派”的代表人物归有光的散文《项脊轩志》就深得留白艺术三昧,作者将极其浓烈深沉的悲情不动声色地蕴藏在大量留白之中,看似白描式的写物记人,却能让读者为之大恸,收到了“言有尽而情未终,文有限而意无穷”的强烈艺术效果。其留白艺术特色主要表现在以下方面:
