Although Jacopo Bukhart, the Swiss historian, in his The Civilization of the Renaissance in Italy, considered this statement too narrow, it has become, after all, a universally accepted concept . This pioneering book by Bukhart, first published in 1860 and later republished several times, has been the most classic illustration of that great era. It explores the great themes of city-states, individuals, society, the revival of classicality, and the discovery of a new world, but it does not address the visual arts. The scholars of our time have reviewed and amended various traditional concepts concerning the Renaissance. The essay entitled ”The Renaissance: Basic Interpretations, Second Edition, 1924“ by Karl H. Dannenfeldt is a collection of the most important articles on the Renaissance issue Aspects ”of the opposite view of the representative works. The concluding essay by the famous Renaissance expert Wallace K. Ferguson, “Reinterpretation of the Renaissance,” is of particular value in the book. In this book, as far as the artistic status of each period is concerned, modern scholars all agree that literature and art
