On May 14, 1957, under the auspices of Premier Zhou Enlai personally, more than 200 people from the capital’s literary and art circles held a grand rally to set up the Beijing Chinese Painting Academy (renamed Beijing Painting Academy in 1965), the first art academy in New China.
