In the early 1980s, an attractive and popular bestseller appeared in the bookstores of large and small cities in Britain, the Scottish Book, a trilogy novel that was published in the 1930s and rediscovered and published in the 1980s. The book is not only popular with readers, staying on the bestseller list for a long time, but also praised by critics as a classic that reflects the social changes in modern Scotland. Its author, Lewis Graciek Gibbon, is also known as “The Most Outstanding Interpreter of the Scottish Life Scene and the Scottish People.” The novel was adapted into a television series by the BBC in the early 1980s, bringing a picture of the dying Scottish countryside to the audience and arousing new British interest in Scotland.
