As the world economic center gradually shifts to other parts of the Asia Pacific region including our own, the Yangtze River Economic Belt that runs through the eastern, central and western parts of our country will become the backbone of our economic development. The development and take-off of the Yangtze River economic belt will inevitably require the linkage of the upper and lower reaches to form the economic integration of the river basin. This undoubtedly provides a huge opportunity for Wanjiang Demonstration Zone to rely on the development of the Yangtze River economic belt. In late July 2013, when President Xi Jinping inspected Wuhan, he proposed that the Yangtze River Basin should step up cooperation to transform the entire Yangtze River into a golden waterway. In October, the National Development and Reform Commission launched the “guidance for promoting the transformation and upgrading of the Yangtze River economic belt.”
