哥斯达黎加44 000 hm2香蕉种植园约90%遭到粉虱和介壳虫侵害,引起了种植户和政府高度重视。这两种害虫都是刺吸式昆虫,一般为害新长出的香蕉茎秆和叶片,一旦吸食果实,就容易造成斑点,影响果实外观及内在品质,从而严重影响香蕉出口,甚至有的出口香蕉因此被退货,损失惨重。哥斯达黎加国家香蕉公司Corbana总经理Jorge Sauma指出,被这两种害虫侵袭的香蕉一旦抵达欧洲或美国,将会造成非常严重的损失,货船被拒绝入港,进而对哥斯达黎加全国香蕉
