Objective To investigate the clinical significance of determination of glycosylated hemoglobin (Hb A1c) in the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus (DM). Methods Sixty-three diabetes patients in Puhuangyu Community Health Service Center of Fengtai District of Beijing were selected as the observation group. Another 63 healthy subjects were selected as the control group. HbA1c and fasting plasma glucose (FPG) were measured by venous blood samples after admission, and Hb A1c and FPG levels were compared between the two groups. The correlation between Hb A1c and FPG was analyzed. Results The levels of FPG and Hb A1c in observation group were significantly higher than those in control group (P <0.05). Pearson correlation coefficient showed that Hb A1c was positively correlated with FPG (r = 0.854, P <0.05). Conclusion The determination of Hb A1c in the diagnosis of diabetes can effectively reflect the constant level of blood sugar in the patients in the short term, and then provide an important reference for the diagnosis and prognosis evaluation of the disease.
