朱老总一生喜爱花草树木,特别爱好兰花,即使在井冈山革命斗争那样战火纷飞的年代,他只要见到兰花,就会随手采挖几株,在硝烟弥漫的土地上培植起来。1962年春夏一天,朱老总重访井冈山,他在下榻的宾馆问身边的同志:“我记得过去这里到处长着兰花,现在不知还有没有?”在场的袁林回答:“这里的兰花坪,盛产各种兰花。”他听说后,兴致勃勃地就要去参观。兰花坪位于花果山上,离茨坪一公里多。在这块开阔的山谷,生长着松、梓、枫、苦楮等繁茂的树木。古树参天,挺拔苍劲,尤其引人入胜的是林荫中遍地生长着井冈山特有的九节兰,清香馥郁、沁人肺腑。
