研究地壳与上地幔电性结构与许多地学问题以及石油、地热等矿产资源的寻找和预测有着十分密切的关系。为探索地壳深部介质的电学性质、状态、热力学条件及其变化与地震活动的关系和提供圈定地震危险区所必要的依据,大地电磁测深法是一种经济、简便可行的探测方法。大地电磁测深法以能量丰富,频带较宽的天然电磁场脉动做场源,具有不受高阻层屏蔽,探测深度大(广泛用于地壳及上地幔研究),分辨力强(对低阻层反应敏感),工作队伍小,成本低廉,野外装备轻便等特点。因此,深受国内外地球物理学家的高度重视。
