The conference on nutrition and cancer organized by the International Association for Life Science and the American Cancer Society was held in Atlanta, USA on April 17-19, 1991. In his main report after the opening ceremony, Sir Doll, an internationally renowned oncology epidemiologist, emphasized that certain nutrients can promote or inhibit the occurrence of various cancers, and that dietary modification can reduce the cancer death rate in human beings by 35%. The meeting of 300 scientists from all over the world exchanged and discussed the latest research results on the impact of dietary factors on carcinogenesis. Twenty-nine scholars spoke on topics such as fat and calories, micronutrients and macronutrients, diet-related carcinogens and mutagens, oncogenic mechanisms and risk assessment, and dozens of papers were presented on a blackboard.
