Chromosome Analysis and Clinical Genetics in Iceland Beginning in 1967, the Cytogenetics Laboratory of the University of Iceland’s Department of Pathology used chromosomal analysis for disease diagnosis. A total of 8,515 samples of chromosomes were analyzed between 1967 and 1987, including 5557 blood samples (2499 amniotic fluid with maternal blood), 2797 amniotic fluid, 166 skin fibroblasts, 55 bone marrow, 19 villus and 21 mixed samples. Chromosome analysis was successfully performed in 8432 samples (97.9%), with a chromosomal abnormality of 7.7%, of which 16.5% for blood samples, 2.3% for amniotic fluid, 35.1% for dermal fibroblasts, 66.2% for bone marrow, and 11.8%, mixed samples of 70.6%. The study
