犹太裔美国作家索尔·贝娄拒接接受“犹太作家”的称谓,实际是对族裔身份属性的抗拒,而这始于犹太身份的跌落。贝娄幼年生活在加拿大蒙特利尔的犹太人隔都,隔都纷杂、碎裂的环境给予幼年贝娄深刻的影响,并直接或间接地对其之后的文学创作有着不可忽视的作用。因此,依据贝娄与蒙特利尔隔都的事实关系为基础,立足文学研究的立场,观照其对建构贝娄犹太性的作用,以此有助于更为确切地理解贝娄的文学创作。
