Objective To explore the effects of exercise and diet intervention on the related indexes of patients with metabolic syndrome (MS). Methods A total of 60 MS patients aged 35-55 years were randomly divided into experimental group and control group. The experimental group received diet and exercise intervention for 6 months while the control group did not take any intervention. MS-related indicators were collected at 0, 3, and 6 months. Results Compared with the control group, the BMI, abdominal circumference, diastolic blood pressure, fasting blood glucose, triglyceride and total cholesterol in the test group were significantly decreased at 3 and 6 months (P <0.05 or P <0.01). Compared with the control group, the patients in the test group increased the frequency of exercise at 6 months, the snacks and midnight snack habits reduced, the consumption of coarse grains and white meat increased, and the consumption of red meat decreased (P <0.01). Conclusion Exercise and diet intervention can effectively improve the metabolic status of patients with MS 3 to 6 months.
