1985年8月19日,塘沽新港一带被海水漫淹,海水一般高出地面50—80cm,造成严重损失。中央对塘沽被淹的原因极为关切。 天津市科委和国家海洋局海洋水文气象预报总台认为这次塘沽被淹的原因是地壳下沉。两份调查报告都分别提出:塘沽此次潮灾主要是地壳下沉引起的,25年中(1961—1985年) August 19, 1985, Newport, Tanggu flooded submerged by seawater, sea water generally higher than the ground 50-80cm, causing serious losses.
