The pace of acquisitions and mergers has slowed down in recent months. This can’t help but make people wonder: Is the enthusiasm for merger and acquisition looming? The U.S. merger of Time Warner has been rampant for a year and no other super-mergers have yet been seen. In 2000, there was only one purchase that involved more than US$50 billion in total, which was the merger of Grasso Wellcome and Smith Klein Berham after a week of acquisition.
