As a new soft computing method, Rough Set Theory is an effective tool to analyze and process fuzzy and uncertain information. It is widely used in the fields of artificial intelligence, knowledge discovery, pattern recognition and fault detection. This paper describes the basic concepts and characteristics of rough set theory, expounds the current research status of rough set theory, discusses the existing problems in the research of rough set theory, and prospects the development of rough set theory.
