3Cr2W8V钢是目前国内外广泛应用、综合性能比较好的热作模具钢。它有较好的红硬性,工作温度较高,故使用此模具钢应放在发挥其高温性能的潜力方面,即应作压型模具使用,而用它作锤型模具是不适当的。对3Cr2W8V钢模具采取强韧化处理,即提高淬火温度和回火温度,可使模具的综合性能得到显著的改善和提高。压型模具的服役条件十分恶劣,这类模具的正常失效多数是由于热疲劳引起,象锻型模具一样,因磨损造成的尺寸超差较少。模具的早期脆裂一般都是由于热疲劳裂纹的提早出现和迅速扩展造成。但模具硬度和强度指标过高以及韧性不足等是导致早期脆裂的主要原因。
