HVDC is a relatively new technology. Since the world’s first HVDC project for industrial use (from Sweden to the Gortland) was put into operation in 1954, with the successful development of high-power AC-DC converters and the development of thyristor technology, HVDC has been widely used all over the world and has gained mature operating experience. The world’s DC high-voltage transmission projects, currently in operation or under construction, have a capacity of about 14,000 megawatts.
