1792年9月某夜,在黑暗的伦敦街头,有一批警察和侦探悄肖地摸向一处房屋,要去逮捕革命志士汤姆·潘恩(Tom Paine)。这正是法国革命发生不久,全欧洲的统治者日子极不好过的时候。这个潘恩帮助了美国革命回来,又写了一本《人权》来宣扬法国革命的道理,因之英国的统治阶层恨之入骨。但是等到警察破门而入,却扑了一个空,潘恩已经在几个小时之前得到一个朋友的劝告:“潘恩,千万不可回家,回则死无葬身之地矣!”因此赶快离开伦敦,从多佛渡过海峡,参加到法国革命人民的行列里去了。
One night in September 1792, on the dark streets of London, a group of police and detectives secretly touches a house and arrests the revolutionary cleric Tom Paine. This is precisely the time of the French revolution, when the rulers of Europe took a very bad time. This Paine helped bring back the American revolution and wrote a “human rights” to promote the truth of the French revolution because of the hatred of the British ruling class. But wait until the police broke into the room, but rushed to an empty, Paine had been a friend a few hours ago advised: “Paine, do not go home, back to death without burial place! ” So hurry to leave London, crossed the Strait from Dover and joined the French revolutionary people.
