Lu Xun (1881-1936), hailed by Mao Zedong as the “leader of the Chinese cultural revolution,” and Gorky (1868-1936) hailed as “the most outstanding representative of the proletarian art” by Lenin, all have the soul of remoulding people Unlike social dreams, Gorky valued the rescue power of the ideal of social revolution, while Lu Xun valued the thoroughness of the Marxist revolution. They are clinging to their own pursuits and pinning their own soul and social hopes on the revolution carried out by the Bolsheviks and the Chinese Communist Party. They devote themselves wholly to the torrent of revolution. Although they have different ideas and experiences on their own roads, their way to the revolution reveals the same tangled relationship between intellectuals and the revolution.
