在卫星通讯和微波接力通讯中逐渐启用频谱复用体制,特别是国际卫星通讯组织规定,在1985年以后,国际卫星通讯天线需要具备频谱复用能力。为此需要天线具有高纯极化性能。在射电天文中也需极化性能良好的天线。影响天线的极化性能的主要关键是初级馈源及微波元件的质量,此外还有边缘绕射、遮挡、轮廓偏差等各种因素。
