由国务院主持召开的全国第六次水土保持工作会议于4月28～29日在北京召开,国务院总理李鹏同志致信会议表示祝贺.李鹏同志指出:保护水土资源,使之永续利用,对于中华民族的生存和发展具有十分重要的意义.各级政府要把水土保持工作纳入国民经济和社会发展计划,作为实现可持续发展的重大战略任务来抓.姜春云副总理出席会议并作了重要讲话(见本期内文).这次会议的目的主要是总结工作,交流经验,进一步统一思想认识,研究如何加大水土保持工作力度,认真落实国务院批准的《全国水土保持规划纲要》确定的“九五”水土流失防治任务,为实施可持续发展战略作出新的贡献.为表彰先进,进一步推动全国水土保持工作的深入开展,人事部、水利部决定,授予100个单位“全国水土保持先进工作者”荣誉称号;授予100名同志“全国水土保持先进工作者”荣誉称号.
