《戏剧丛刊》1988年四期发表田本相的《话剧创作中的现实主义问题》。文中说,现在的问题不是现实主义已经过时,而是我们对现实主义还存在着严重的误解。有对现实主义的误解,也必然有对现代主义的误解。就艺术精神来说,我倒以为现代主义和现实主义是息息相通的。谁也无法抹煞它们之间的区别,但谁也不能否认两者之间共通的东西,因此,才可能互相摄取吸收。中国话剧,曾经有过现实主义对现代派戏剧开放摄取的历史经验,从机械的模仿、手法的因袭到更内在的审美意识的吸收。我以为目前的中国话剧仍然需要现实主义,特别是需要现实主义的精神。
“Drama Series” published in 1988 issue of the fourth phase of Tian’s “drama in the creation of realism.” The article said that the problem now is not that realism is outdated, but that we still have serious misconceptions about realism. There are misunderstandings of realism and inevitable misunderstandings of modernism. As far as the artistic spirit is concerned, I think that modernism and realism are interlinked. No one can deny the difference between them, but no one can deny the common ground between the two, so it is possible to absorb each other. In Chinese drama, there have been historical experiences of realism in opening up modernist plays, from the imitation of machinery to the absorption of more intrinsic aesthetic awareness. I think the current Chinese drama still needs realism, especially the need of the spirit of realism.
