Introduction In military communications systems, fiber has a wide range of potential applications. Three areas of research are currently underway: 1) replacement of metal cables with optical fibers in long-distance cable systems; 2) replacement of multi-core metal distribution cables in the office with optical fibers; and 3) projectiles for communications and weapon systems Fiber optic system.
