By analyzing many factors that have caused Tess ’s tragedy, this essay explores the beauty and ugliness of metaphors in the novel from such aspects as beauty of Tess, society’ s ugliness, and weakness of human nature. It puts forward that the realistic significance of tragedy literature lies in that it awakens people to change the world and promote All good and beautiful, promote the progress of human civilization.
