“Kinship” is the most popular novel written by the contemporary African American writer Octavian Butler about the story of Dana, a modern African American woman, who crossed Maryland during the time-space visit to slavery. This article analyzes the African American language awareness during slavery and discusses their language contention with whites in education rights, literacy control and daily life. This article argues that the language contention between races is essentially a power struggle. Afro-American language contention is not only for self-liberation, but also for self-writing. When Na Na revisits his own slave status 200 years after the independence of the United States The writing of the system shows the arduous long course of the arduous process of American Afro-American expression from the language appeal during the slavery period to the language competition and then to obtain the power of discourse.
