According to the “Sankei Shimbun” reported on April 2, 1983, the scientific research team of Professor Yeno Koji of the Faculty of Science of Nagoya University has successfully developed a new synthesis method of prostaglandin (PG) for “the panacea of adult diseases.” Prostaglandins are ultra-micro hormones found in the body. It has the ability to dissolve the thrombus that blocks blood vessels, inhibits the proliferation of cancer cells, and promotes a wide range of therapeutic effects such as contraction of uterine muscles and induction of labor. It can hardly be extracted as a natural product, and chemical synthesis requires twenty complex processes. The method pioneered by Yeiyi et al. is to synthesize the prostaglandin skeleton part separately and then make it happen with the help of copper ions.
