在一九一一年四月二十七日广州起义的前三天,林觉民写了两封遗书。一封信是给他老父亲的,另一封信是给妻子意映的,这封信就是作者写给意映的。广州起义爆发后,林觉民奋不顾身地参加了攻打两广总督衙门的战斗。起义失败,他负伤被俘,在敌人的公堂上,他发表演说,宣传革命。几天以后,林觉民从容就义,时年仅二十五岁。本文共分四部分:
In the first three days of the Guangzhou Uprising on April 27, 1911, Lin Juemin wrote two suicide notes. A letter was given to his old father. Another letter was given to his wife. The letter was written by the author. After the outbreak of the uprising in Guangzhou, Lin Juemin fought indiscriminately in the fight against the gates of the Governor of Guangdong and Guangxi.
