一、为了加强对边远地区、少数民族地区和科学基础薄弱地区科研工作的支持,促进全民族科学技术水平的提高,国家自然科学基金委员会从一九八九年起试设地区科学基金。二、地区科学基金从国家自然科学基金中划出一定额度经费,在规定地区范围内平等竞争,择优资助部分省、自治区所属单位科研人员从事的基础研究和部分应用研究工作,重点支持结合当地自然资源和自然条件特点开展的研究工作。
