党员教育工作是实现党在新时期历史任务的重要保证。当前和今后一个时期党员教育工作总的指导思想是:在邓小平同志建设有中国特色社会主义理论和党的基本路线指引下,紧紧围绕经济建设这个中心,积极适应建立社会主义市场经济体制、实现第二步战略目标的需要,加强党的思想建设,全面提高党员素质,增强党组织的战斗力,动员全党为完成十四大提出的各项战略任务而共同奋斗。
