Researchers at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the Tokyo Institute of Technology recently reported using a self-assembled zinc oxide (ZnO) film to obtain a 387urn laser at room temperature. The peak gain of this microcrystalline thin film is one order of magnitude larger than bulk ZnO. Due to the huge market prospect of short wavelength diode laser, there are many researches on InGaN and ZnSe, while attention is paid to ZnO with wide bandgap material.
