Objective: To observe the effect of fentanyl (Doric) transdermal patch on moderate cancer pain and to explore the best time to use the patch. Methods: Ninety-nine adult patients with cancer pain were selected. The pain visual analogue scale (VAS) was 4-6. Fentanyl transdermal patches start from a 2.5 mg dosage form and are changed every 3 days for 15 days. The patient’s pain score and drug adverse reactions were observed during treatment. Results: There was significant difference in VAS before and after treatment (P <0.01). Common adverse reactions during treatment were constipation, nausea, vomiting, dizziness and drowsiness. CONCLUSIONS: Fentanyl transdermal patches are safe for the treatment of patients with moderate cancer pain. The recommended timing for the first and second step analgesics is that they are not satisfied with conventional dose effects and have a VAS score of 4 to 6.
