1999年，深圳电影制片厂艺术总监徐祥炼找到我，希望和我合作，拍一部“义工”题材的影片。我当时还不知道什么是义工。后来去深圳收集素材，到“义工联”开座谈会，才知道深圳沿袭香港的叫法称“青年志愿者”为“义工”。我觉得这个题材适合拍电视专题片，搞成故事片比较困难
In 1999, Xu Xiang Lian, the art director of Shenzhen Film Studio, found me and hoped to cooperate with me to make a film entitled “Volunteer”. I did not know what a volunteer was at the time.
