Cerf is cheerful, passionate, quick-witted and resourceful. He is good at working closely with writers and attracts them around him. He also pays close attention to credit and can therefore compete in a highly competitive and powerful American publishing world In the victory over the opponent, continuous development, long-term invincible. At Random (1977) is a rich and interesting memoir written by Joseph in his later years. This book records Cerf’s decades-long experience of running Random House and his personal emotional life, especially his personal contacts with many of the world’s leading writers. Due to the limitation of articles, we have selected only a few chapters that record Joseph’s interactions with O’Neal, Joyce, Lewis and Faulkner, the four literary giants, and U.S. President Roosevelt, providing us with a special perspective , So that we can see the true personality and characteristics of these big men when they are under the stage. It is worth mentioning that Joseph is an accomplished editor, publisher, and is a well-known American comedian who hosted the humorous show for CBS for 15 years. He also wrote “What a good joke: A Tale of Jane and Esoteric, Anteater from South Africa to Ancient Egyptian Beer” (1952), The Laughing Book (1959), The Treasure of Bennett Criven (1968) , “But a joke: Bennett Joseph Best Story Collection” (1971) and other works of more than ten. At the time of reading this memoir, readers will surely appreciate the humorousness of this cheerful and aggressive publisher.
