近来我常常想,一个新闻记者必须时刻牢记并且实践自己的社会职责,充分发挥这一行的特点和长处,而不糊里糊涂地向文艺靠拢。只有这样,他才有可能对人民做出应有的贡献,在这一行取得出类拔萃的成就。否则,恐怕大体上可以肯定,他既成不了一个大记者,也成不了一个大作家。这个想法近来老是纠缠着我,一有机会我就要宣扬一通。这确实是有感而发的。当然,正如一个大将军或者自然科学家可以同时是大诗人一样,一个记者也可以兼事文艺创作,一个作家也可以担任记者的职务。但是他在从事这两项工作的时候,是有着或者应当有一条明确的界线的。如果他误入歧途,以文艺创作的办法采写新闻,以新闻工作的办法从事文艺创作,他能闹出个什么气候来呢?这是两个不同的行业。彼此的社会
