The Lancang-Mekong sub-region is one of the most endemic areas of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in the world. It is endemic to many HIV-1 virus subtypes and is trans-boundary. This article summarizes HIV-1 infection and epidemic subtypes in various countries (provinces) of the Lancang-Mekong sub-region in recent years. In addition, cross-provincial dissemination of major HIV-1 subtypes: subtype B, subtype C, and CRF01_AE in the region and inter-provincial transmission of CRF07_BC and CRF08_BC in China are presented in the hope that this region, and in particular, Yunnan and China HIV-1 virus origin, transmission routes and other research to provide some reference, but also for the prevention and control of AIDS in the area to provide a scientific basis for the prevention and control.
